Forgive but never accept” sounds strong—but it also assumes people are frozen in their worst moment. I don’t think that’s true. People mess up. Sometimes badly. But people also grow, learn, and change—if they’re willing to do the work. Forgiveness isn’t just about letting go of the past; it’s about recognizing progress when it’s real. And acceptance, to me, doesn’t mean saying what happened was okay—it means acknowledging who someone has become since then. If someone shows genuine growth, takes accountability, and moves differently, I think that matters. Holding someone hostage to who they used to be ignores the whole point of growth in the first place. We’re all more than our worst decisions. And if we expect grace for ourselves, we should be open to extending it to others—when they’ve truly earned it. Just saying!
